SATURDAY - June 14th at 7PM
Hi JF Members:
Join a team of Jeunes Francophiles members who are planning to attend a Zydeco event this coming Saturday evening. For those who have never heard about Zydeco, it is a musical genre from Louisiana. The music has a great beat to listen to and to dance to (See description below).
For those who want to dance, no prior experience is necessary.
There is even a free workshop at 7PM.
If you don't want to dance, just enjoy the live band, the company of fellow JF members, and the Zydeco rythm.
ANDRE THIERRY & ZYDECO MAGIC : "An extraordinary zydeco band" ...
Zydeco music can be described as a mixture of Rhythm & Blues, Caribbean, and Cajun music.
The music is indigenous to the Creole culture of Southwest Louisiana, and not many years back could only be heard in the dance halls and country bars in Louisiana.
Now it's heard throughout the world.
Thierry, though only 23, is among the best of both the West Coast and the Gulf Coast.
He combines youthful vigor with an appreciation for his inherited tradition.
Singing vocals in both English and Creole French, taught to him by his grandmother, Andre is one of the "zydekids", and is considered a standard-bearer for the new generation.
What I notice is that all the well known zydeco stars listen closely when Thierry plays.
His music is comprised of rhythmical sounds from bands such at Beau Jocques, John Delafose, Boozoo Chavis and Clifton Chenier.
It's been said "He plays Clifton, better than Clifton!"
