Special events on January 4th, 18th and 29th.
Lafayette exhibit at the New-York Historical Society, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of this Revolutionary War hero and statesman. French Founding Father: Lafayette's Return to Washington's America, focuses on his much celebrated tour of the United States in 1824-1825, that brought out the pride of all Americans.
Features of the exhibit include: more than 100 objects commemorating his visit and relationship to George Washington, wall-mounted map showing the route of his 14-month tour across the country to all 24 states, an authentic 19th-century carriage that Lafayette traveled in, and even a replica Guillotine.
On select "Let Them Eat Cake Fridays" we will have available fine foods. On January 4, 2008 we will have offerings from bakeries, and on January 18, 2008, chocolates will be available. As always admission is free every Friday from 6 pm to 8 pm.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 6:30 pm will be a special event "The French in New York" This program will explore the contributions of the people of French origin who came to America before and after the Revolution. This program will immediately be followed by Hors d'oeuvres and a wine tasting.
